Exactly what is this thing called a HOT FLASH?
During a Hot Flash, there is a heat sensation rushing towards the head, followed by sweating and fatigue. Night sweats are basically a “hot flash” that happens during the night, making one perspire severely.
Studies have shown that 70-80% of American menopausal women experience hot flashes while 10-15% have a severe problem with them. Not everyone suffers from Hot Flashes. Hot flashes generally occur as a result of fluctuating estrogen levels, a congested liver, and/or adrenal fatigue. Hot Flashes can also be associated with a rise in FSH, which is due to a stimulation of the ovaries by the hypothalamus to produce more estrogen.
What can you do to help with Hot flashes?
1. Clean diet
A poor diet can contribute hugely to hot flashes. When we have more toxins in the system from a poor diet, this leads to less optimal liver function and weakened digestion. This applies to Menopausal and Menstruating women. Say no to sugar and refined carbohydrates. Instead, eat a diet rich in legumes (beans), whole grains and green leafy vegetables.
2. Watch your Stress
This includes physical stress, emotional stress, and dietary stress. Stress aggravates hot flashes. Since we know the adrenals are our stress glands, we need to reduce our stress and support our adrenals. Watch out for stimulants such as caffeine and alcohol as they can aggravate and sometimes trigger the hot flashes by dilating your arteries.
3. Supplements to consider
There is not necessarily a one size fits all solution. Here are some of my favorite support products to offer support. I always recommend getting your hormones tested here.
